World No.2 Lee suffered a lost from Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto. Although the game continued for about 78 minutes but still Lee got out. But for Kenta Nishimoto it was a good experience as he outblasted Lee 19-21, 21-18 and 21-19.

He admitted, “I can accept the loss as I didn’t plan to play at this championship originally. I was on vacation after the Dubai Super Series Finals at the end of last year, then, I had spent time with my family and I didn’t participate in any badminton leagues held during that time.”

Lee added, “Previously, we kicked off the season through All England in Mach. This year, due to the changes in Badminton World Federation (BWF), we were required to participate in 12 tournaments or face a fine. I am sure a lot of players are still not at their 100% yet by playing in BWF tournaments in January.”

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia easily clinched the game from Chen Long 17-21, 15-21 in 43 minutes in the first round of Malaysia Masters. Chen long said, “I disagreed with a decision by the line judge earlier in the game, but, overall, I was unhappy with my performance.”

Another big seed Lin Dan suffered a lost from Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia 21-16, 18-21, 21-17.

But a good news for Malaysia came when Daren Liew (men’s singles) kicked off Son Wan Ho (No 4. Seed) 21-15, 21-13.

Denmark’s sportsperson of the year (2017) Viktor Axelsen grabbed his place in the second round Malaysia Masters where he will face World No.3 B. Saipraneeth of India.
