Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying Clears Thailand Masters First Round
Thailand Masters 2018 started on 9th Jan. Top mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Started cleared their first round of ongoing Thailand Masters 2018. This however helped them in building up of confidence for rest of the event and as well as season.
On Tuesday 9th Jan 2018 they defeated Hong kong pair Chang Tak Ching/Ng Wing Yung by 19-21 and 15-21. Obviously one expects a much better performance from this pair but on the same hand they have been paired after April. They won silver medal in Rio Olympics 2017 in April and since then are not with each other.
Chang Tak Ching/Ng Wing Yung showed very strong play in the first game. It was a close game as it ended 21-19 in the favour of Peng Soon/Liu Ying. But in second game Malaysian pair dominated and won the set by 21-15.
Liu Ying said, “It’s a special feeling to be able to go back and play on the court,” said Goh, who missed almost the entire season last year after undergoing a shoulder surgery in Germany. Peng Soon and I are not at our best but that’s okay. We want to play as many tournaments as we can this year and hopefully we will be able to peak in April.”
She further added,” This is my first tournament with Peng Soon, so I do not want to set any targets. The main goal of the year is to do well in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.”
The former World No. 3 pair will play Yantoni Edy Saputra/Marsheilla Gischa Islami of Indonesia in the second round.
While on the other hand Leong Jun Hao further confirms his entry into main draw after defeating his team-mate Soo Teck Zhi 21-18, 21-18. He is the winner of last year’s Asian Junior Championship. Leong Jun Hao will face world no. 8 Zulfadli Zulkiffli
