2018 Commonwealth Games will take place in Gold Coast Australia. It is the 21st edition which is going to take place in 2018. BAM,s (Badminton Association Of Malaysia) president Mohmad Norza Zakaria is hoping to clinch at least 3 Gold Medals in upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games. The games will commence from 4th April and will end on 15th of April.
The list of shuttlers for 2018 Commonwealth Games is out with the names of 5 males and 5 females. The names are Lee Chong Wei (men’s single), Goh Jin Wei (women’s singles), Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem (men’s doubles), Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles), Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles) and Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei (women’s doubles).
BAM is again going with its best and experienced name Lee Chong Wei. This 2018 Commonwealth Games might be the last one for Lee Chong Wei. Moreover it is expected that one gold medal will come from his side out of three.
At the Malaysian Badminton Academy on Thursday Zakira said,” We have suggested a list of players to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM) that will hold the main selection meeting next Monday”.
There is a rule that each country can send maximum upto 5 male and 5 female players. According to Zakira they have sent top players of their country keeping in mind the level of Commonwealth Games.
4 years ago in the last commonwealth games Malaysia clinched out 3 gold medals with the help of mixed doubles, men doubles and women doubles. And again this time they have set a target of 3 Gold Medals.
2 Gold medals are already in the name of Lee Chong Wei which he got in 2006 (Melbourne) and 2010 (New Delhi). Now he is having his eye on the third which most probably will be his last in 2018 Commonwealth Games.
