BAM Ready To Appeal For Lee Chong Wei
BAM ( Badminton Association of Malaysia ) is ready to appeal for World No 2 Lee Chong Wei. Lee Chong Wei, few days back suggested BWF regarding the revised schedule. The new schedule for 2018 seems to be a more difficult task for players above the age of 30 and he wanted an exemption in the new rule from BWF.
The new rule says that top 15 singles player and top 10 pairs in badminton world will have to play at least 12 tournaments in a year along with commonwealth games and other big titles. If they fail then players will have to bear a penalty.
Ng Chin Chan said that he would submit the application to BWF with in a week in favour of Lee Chong Wei. Ng Chin Chan is BAM’s General Secretary.
He said ” We are going to ask them to reduce the tournaments Chong Wei has to participate in. This is because Chong Wei will have to play in 5 extra tournaments including the Asian Team Championships, the Thomas Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games and the World Championships on top of the 12 World Tours.”
General secretory also added ” If he qualifies for the Super Series Finals, he would have to play one more tournament at the end of 2018. This is going to be too much, not only for Lee, but for all players 30 years old and above. At the age of 35, Chong Wei faces the risk of injury if he plays in too many tournaments in a single year.”
According to Ng Chin Chan there is no need to bring this topic to the meeting on Thursday. This is because he already had a word with Lee Chong Wei about this issue. Chong Wei had informed about this earlier to BWF.
