Manpreet Singh new captain for World Hockey League Semifinal

Manpreet Singh was elected  as a new captain for Indian Hockey Team. He will be leading his side in the 2 competitions, World Hockey League Semifinal in England and 3 Nations International Tournament in Germany.

This choice was made on Thursday. The explanation behind allocating new skipper for Indian team was the injury which Shreejesh suffered.

Shreejesh got harmed amid the match against Australia in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. This made him out the squad for the upcoming two tournaments.

The group consists of 18 players. Some of them are profoundly experienced and some are less. The 3 Nations Invitational Tournament will begin from June 1 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Indian group will play 2 matches, one against the hosts Germany and other against Belgium.

Pradeep Mor, Kothajit Singh, Surender Kumar, Rupender Pal Singh and Harmanpreet will take care of defence line. This was stated by Hockey India in press release.

Penalty corner specialists will be as usual Harmanpreet Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh. Akash Chikte and Vikas Dhayiya will play the role of goalkeeper.

Shreejesh misses out due to injury. He will not be able to serve his country on goal post.

SK Uthappa, Satbir Singh, Harjeet Singh and experienced  manpreet and Sardaar will be seen in the midfield. The experience of Sardaar will give strength to the team.

Ramandeep, SV Sunil, Akashdeep Singh, Talwinder Singh and Mandeep Singh will fulfill the quota of strikers.

“The idea was to bring in a couple of changes in positions after Sultan Alan Shah Cup”, said Roelant Oltmans. Sultan Azlan Shah cup featured new players in Indian team.

Roelant Oltmans have set a new aim. The new target for blues is to finish at Top 2 in the World Hockey League Semifinal .

According to Oltmans India is very fast. Statistics prooves their performace. They had 62 % possession which is considered to be a improvement from previous years.

In Sultan Azlan Shah Cup India finished at 3rd position. India won the bronze medal. Team played with more attack. The bronze medalist now will be fighting against top teams. This will provide less experienced players to gain more confidence.
